GREEN WOODPECKER.

Posted on 31st January 2026.

Green Woodpeckers (also known as a Yaffle) are often heard at the Rife, but rarely seen.

A recent wonderful sighting of a pair feeding on the ground and in the trees gave the oppurtunity to finally get some photographs of them.

The one pictured here is a female. The male has a red patch on the cheeks whereas the females are all black.
